Purpose

Modern slavery is a violation of fundamental human rights. At its essence, modern slavery is forced or bonded labour and involves the deprivation of a person’s liberty by another in order to exploit them for personal or commercial gain. We are committed to ensuring that our business and supply chains are slavery free, and we wish to publish this statement to that effect.

The Criminal Law (Human Trafficking) Act 2008, as amended by the Criminal Law (Human Trafficking) (Amendment) Act 2013 commits each business to publish a statement on their website which sets out their policy in this area. Its aim is to increase transparency as well as ensuring it is easily accessible to anyone who wants to see it, the public, consumers, employees and Investors.

This statement is made pursuant to Modern Slavery & Human Trafficking (Ireland) legislation (mentioned above) and sets out the steps Compuscript Ltd. has taken to ensure that slavery and human trafficking is not taking place in our supply chains or in any part of our business. Compuscript Ltd. recognises that such an approach is an important part of our corporate responsibility, and we will continue to review the steps we take.

The Business

Compuscript is a leading editorial services provider to the scholarly publishing community, providing the highest standards of editorial office management through our professional staff, and superior customer service to our publisher customers, as well as to their journal editors, authors, and reviewers. We provide full service support in article-submission and peer-review management for existing customers, from small scale individual journal clients to larger scholarly publishing houses.

Commitment

We are committed to ensuring that there is no slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory human labour, abuse of power over vulnerable individuals, human trafficking or any other form of exploitation in any part of our business or in our supply chain. We are committed to conducting our business honestly, ethically and with integrity and we expect the same high standard of those with whom we work. We encourage openness amongst our staff and will support any employee who suggests ways in which our policies and our commitment may be improved.

Our Policies

We strive for transparent business operations and performance and adhere to a high set of ethics and values that guide our governance procedures and daily management decisions.

We are committed to expanding our operations globally and in a sustainable manner for the benefit of our customers, our employees, and the wider communities and environments on which we impact. The business takes a pro-active approach to its corporate responsibility, which is deeply rooted in its corporate strategy and business decisions.

In accordance with our commitment to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships, we intend to implement effective systems and controls to ensure modern slavery is not taking place in our supply chains. This will involve ensuring the effective communication and reinforcement of our relevant policies, which give a clear view of the values and the principles that underpin all of our work and that we expect all persons involved in our business and supply chain to adhere to.

Supplier due dilligence

Compuscript procures goods and services from suppliers across the world. The scope of our supply chain includes the following activities:

  • Digital platform development and hosting
  • Production of printed materials and ancillary items
  • The procurement of goods and services not directly related to the production of print and digital products (including office suppliers, travel and technology)

We select our suppliers with care and undertake checks and due diligence in connection with modern slavery on existing and perspective suppliers on a risk assessed basis. We expect all our suppliers to demonstrate a similar commitment to these values and to have high standards in their employment practice. This is reflected in our procurement policies and practices, and in our Supplier Code of Conduct, which seeks to ensure that members of our supply chain meet our expectations of good human rights practices and share our commitment to the concept of social responsibility, both in terms of their labour force and the wider society around them.
